This article describes the principles, goals, and initiatives of the SAFENOWPROJECT, a community-action organization protecting children from victimization.
Abstract
The SAFENOWPROJECT, launched in 2005, serves as a community-action organization that educates children and others about skills and strategies to prevent sexual violence by creating program, curricula, and protocols for schools, churches, and businesses. SAFENOWPROJECT has four core principles: (1) children are the future of communities, (2) children are the heart of civilization, (3) communities have an obligation to protect their children, and (4) awareness increases monitoring and tracking of known sex offenders. The organization is developing a comprehensive set of programs to reach all age groups. The first, Take Five Safer Steps to be Safe Now program provides youngsters with the necessary tools to reduce their vulnerability for victimization. The SAFENOWPROJECT seeks to establish community-based strategies and resources to eradicate child sexual abuse. Endnote with Web site listed for additional information
