Abstract
This report provides data on trends in crimes, arrests, prosecutions, corrections, and juvenile justice in the State in recent years as well as for 2005. The report’s fist section presents data on Kentucky’s changing demography, as it shows trends in population and poverty rates. The second section shows trends in Part I offenses according to data from both police and a statewide victimization survey. Sexual victimizations are reported by the victim’s gender, level of education, race, income, geographic location, and by whether the individual had been a victim of another violent crime or a property crime. Section III presents data on arrest trends by race and gender. Section IV reports bail release trends (2000-2005) by type of offense for Part I offenses. Section V provides data on court dispositions and sentencing trends for all Part I offenses for 2005 and recent years. The next five sections (VI-X) present 2005 and trend data on trial court caseloads, appellate court caseloads, jail population trends, commitment and release trends, and juvenile justice system trends. Section XI contains tables and figures on selected crime categories, including drug offenses, with separate data on methamphetamine cases; DUI (driving under the influence of substances that impair driving); identity theft; forcible rape; sex offenses; and school-based crime. Section XII presents data on criminal justice costs, which encompass criminal justice budgets, police employment, incarceration costs, drug treatment costs, grant awards, and community corrections programs. Extensive tables and figures
