This paper presents the results of a national survey of batterer intervention program (BIP) directors and their beliefs on the relationship of substance abuse and domestic violence.
Abstract
Many of the batterer intervention (BIP) directors saw an influential relationship between substance abuse and domestic violence on the part of both perpetrators and victims. The director's belief about the relationship between substance abuse and domestic violence could impact programmatic decisions. Recommendations on treatment and methodological considerations are discussed. How BIP directors see the relationship of substance abuse and domestic violence can influence their programming decisions. This article reports on a recent national survey of BIPs that explored BIP directors' views of their clients' substance abuse and its connection to violence on the part of both the victim and perpetrator. There were 150 completed responses returned from 35 States. Tables and references
