The course explored ways of improving the criminal justice system's response to cybercrime in the countries represented. For each of the countries, the course examined the current situation and issues related to illegal or harmful activities in the spheres of information and communication technology, particularly concerning the criminalization of computer-related misuses. Also examined were offenses defined in the United Nations Convention on Cybercrime (2001) and its Additional Protocols. These included offenses against the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of computer data and systems; computer-related forgery and fraud; content related offenses (child pornography, racism, and xenophobia); and offenses related to infringements of copyright. Also addressed in the course were legal or practical issues and measures for the investigation, prosecution, and adjudication of cybercrime. The two group workshop sessions addressed issues and measures concerning the legal framework to combat cybercrime, as well as challenges and best practices in cybercrime investigation. Instructional methods included individual presentations; group workshops and plenary sessions; visits to relevant criminal justice agencies; and presentations by visiting experts, UNAFEI faculty members, and ad hoc lecturers.
