Results of the study indicate that the 1 year prevalence rate of intimate partner violence (IPV) was 29 percent, with significant proportions reporting psychological (23 percent), physical (9 percent), and sexual (8 percent) abuse. Independent predictors of IPV included autonomy and contribution to household expenses. These results have important implications for the prevention of IPV in Lagos, as well as for research implications. With contradiction looming over research on the predictors of IPV in Sub-Saharan Africa, further investigation was necessitated. The purpose of this study was to examine the prevalence and predictors of IPV among women in Lagos, Nigeria.
