A summary is provided on Nebraska's Crime Victim's Reparations (CVR) Program for the time period of July 2007 to June 2008.
Abstract
Operational since 1979 and administered by the Nebraska Crime Commission, the Nebraska Crime Victim's Reparations (CVR) Program assists innocent victims of crime with medical expenses, mental health counseling, loss of wages, funeral bills in cases of homicide, residential crime scene clean-up, loss of earning power, and other expenses directly related to the criminal act. The program also covers Nebraska residents who are victims of terrorism in foreign countries. The budget for 2008 from all funding sources for CVR program was $123,178. Public awareness of the CVR program is provided through the distribution of brochures by law enforcement and prosecutor's agencies, public speaking engagements and public service announcements, and through the efforts of victim/witness units and domestic violence/sexual assault task forces. Legislative efforts have been undertaken since 2005 to increase revenue for the CVR program. This report contains a breakdown of claim activity during fiscal year July 2008. Tables
