This paper describes an analysis undertaken by the District of Nebraska following an Office of Federal Detention study in identifying and developing a system to collect outcome and performance measures for Federal pretrial services.
Abstract
Following an assessment study of the District of Nebraska's evidence-based practices, recommendations were suggested for the district to work on determining the outcomes for defendants released to pretrial supervision as well as develop a system to collect outcome and performance measures. In response, an evidence-based practices committee was formulated resulting in an upcoming pretrial risk assessment tool for Federal pretrial services, developing a system to collect outcomes and performance measures. A recommendation is made to have a report written in PACTS (Probation/Pretrial Services Automated Case Tracking System) that would allow the transfer of the data to the SPSS (Statistical Program for the Social Sciences) software, whereby other districts can begin taking the necessary steps to collect outcomes and performance measures and preparing themselves for the upcoming risk assessment tool.
