Abstract
The report describes the work being done in implementing the United Nations Convention Against Transnational Organized Crime and its three protocols: the Protocol to Prevent, Suppress, and Punish Trafficking of Persons, Especially Women and Children; the Protocol Against the Smuggling of Migrants by Land, Sea, and Air; and the Protocol Against the Illicit Manufacturing of and Trafficking in Firearms, Their Parts and Components, and Ammunition. The reporting on activities related to the implementation of the convention and its protocols pertains to the work of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention Against Transnational Organized Crime and its working groups, as well as the promotion of the ratification and implementation of the convention and its protocols among United Nations member states. Another section of the report focuses on actions taken to implement the United Nations Convention Against Corruption, which entered into force on December 14, 2005; as of January 8, 2009, this convention had been ratified by 129 state parties. Information is provide on the working groups established by the Conference of the States Parties to the United Nations Convention Against Corruption, the implementation of Conference resolutions, and the promotion of the convention's ratification and implementation. In this report, the UNODC recommends ways in which the CCPCJ can advance the ratification and implementation of the United Nations Convention Against Transnational Organized Crime and the United Nations Convention Against Corruption.
