Accomplishments of Mexico's Department of Navy's 3-year intense labor in the fight against narcotrafficking and organized crime by land, air, and sea includes the seizure of 44 tons of cocaine with an approximate value of 3.5 billion pesos and the eradication of 2,500 marijuana fields. Highlights of achievements over this same time period on land include: the establishment of 30 Naval Infantry Battalions (BIMS) and established various traffic control posts along the coast to inspect vehicles for drug and weapons detection. Highlights of achievements in the skies include: implementation of illicit crops detection system using satellite images and land-based helicopters, similar to the MI-17 and Bolkow BO-105 used for successfully intercepting targets. Highlights of achievements at sea include: use of interceptor class Polaris and Polaris II ships allowing for continuous pursuit and the use of sea patrol ships which have proven effective against narcotrafficking and other illicit activities at sea.
