In December 2008, the Australian Institute of Criminology (AIC) held an international conference on homicide with a focus on domestic-related homicide. Undertaken as part of a project funded by the Australian Government to examine the issue of domestic-related homicide in Australia, the conference was an important opportunity to learn about international and national developments in research, policy, and practice. This report includes the papers of keynote speakers, with an emphasis on policy- and practice-relevant research. Since publishing the report Killing the Beloved over 15 years before, there has been limited research on intimate partner homicide or other forms of homicide, besides papers based on data from the AIC's National Homicide Monitoring Program (NHMP). These include papers on family homicides, intimate partner homicides, homicides between friends and acquaintances, and murder-suicide. Additionally, presentations on such topics as reviews of domestic violence deaths, media representations and the geography of homicide, use of firearms, missing persons, filicide, and on policing and legal themes such as performance measurement, risk assessment and investigative interviews, forensic science and the provocation defense, can be accessed on the AIC Web site.
