This report presents the 2010 National Drug Control Strategy guide to address the serious challenges posed by illicit drugs and the illegal use of alcohol and tobacco by youth.
Abstract
President Obama's 2010 National Drug Control Strategy reflects a comprehensive approach to reducing drug use and its consequences. The President's drug control strategy is a national, not Federal program and most of the actions in the strategy will require strong partnerships with State, local, and tribal officials, as well as with nongovernmental organizations. Recommendations include: organization of regional meetings with stakeholders across disciplines; ongoing communication with State officials and other Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP) partners; providing best practices guides to key partners throughout the year by ONDCP and Federal agencies; and ONDCP Director and Deputy Director participation in national conferences and regional roundtables to discuss strategy implementation and how to promote effective collaboration among different national organization in the drug field. This strategy document is a collaborative effort by dozens of departments, agencies, Members of Congress, and the American people, and its implementation is a shared responsibility guided by ONDCP and its interagency partners.
