The software has been designed to operate on modern, low-cost, high-performing personal computers running on the latest Windows operating system. This means the software can be used on both laptops and rugged mobile data terminals in a patrol car. The New London Police Department (NH) - which serves nearly 4,300 residents across 13 communities and has 8 full-time sworn officers and 4 part-time officers - adopted Crimestar RMS under the condition that it integrated into the dispatch system. This condition enabled the dispatcher to record a large amount of the initial information, and officers could backfill the remainder of the information. This condition was met. The New London Police Department is also the Regional Dispatch Center for six surrounding towns, each of which uses the Crimestar RMS. Through the Crimestar RMS integrated into the dispatch system, information can be shared among police departments in these towns through the RMS, while allowing New London to maintain control of its own RMS. New London police officers now have a group of information management systems. They are mobile, save time, and allow officers to be more efficient and productive compared with the previous system.
