This Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) Fact Sheet provides information on prevention and education efforts regarding methamphetamine (meth) use.
Abstract
The 2009 National Methamphetamine Threat Assessment found that in the first half of 2008, the increase in domestic methamphetamine (meth) production coincided with the increase in availability of meth. In response to this increase, the Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) has continued its efforts in support of programs to educate communities about the dangers of meth use and to support continued law enforcement efforts to fight the problem. Several key points regarding meth use are presented in the fact sheet. Also presented is a description of Meth360, a program developed by the Partnership for a Drug-Free America that allows law enforcement agencies and other stakeholders to educate their communities about the dangers of meth. Information on additional resources that are available to assist law enforcement in improving investigations is provided. Finally, information is also included on treatment programs for meth addiction.
