The Drug Enforcement Administration's (DEA's) Clandestine Drug Laboratory Cleanup Program (the program) has been in place since 1989. Since that time, the number of clandestine drug laboratories has increased significantly and the complexity of the issues related to these sites has changed. This edition of the Guidelines for Law Enforcement for the Cleanup of Clandestine Drug Laboratories replaces the previous guidelines (1990) and addresses new issues that have emerged since the original publication. It encompasses more than a decade of experience and provides improved guidance and recommendations to State and local agencies which want to participate in the DEA Clandestine Drug Laboratory Cleanup Program (the program) or which want to establish their own clandestine drug laboratory cleanup program. Divided into several sections, the guidelines encompass the following: (1) defining the problem; (2) DEA's clandestine drug laboratory seizure protocol; (3) DEA's Clandestine Drug Laboratory Cleanup Program; (4) training; (5) removal of residual contamination; (6) recommendations for independent State programs; and (7) contact information.
