Abstract
This report complements the reports of the Conference of the Parties in the United Nations Convention Against Transnational Organized Crime (fifth session) and the Conference of the States Parties to the United Nations Convention Against Corruption (fourth session). The report also provides information on the activities of the Mechanism for the Review of Implementation of the United Nations Convention Against Corruption and on the activities related to the establishment of mechanisms for the review of implementation of the Organized Crime Convention and the Protocols thereto, as well as on technical-assistance activities. Regarding efforts in transnational organized crime, the activities pertain to the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention Against Transnational Organized Crime; possible mechanisms for reviewing implementation of the United Nations Convention Against Transnational Organized Crime and its protocols; and promotion of the ratification and implementation of the United Nations Convention Against Transnational Organized Crime. Information is also provided on the implementation of the Organized Crime Convention's provisions on international cooperation, as well as technical-assistance activities related to the Organized Crime Convention. Information on the promotion of the ratification and implementation of the Protocols to the United Nations Convention Against Transnational Organized Crime pertain to trafficking in persons, the smuggling of migrants, and trafficking in firearms. Another major section of the report describes activities related to countering corruption by public officials. The focus is on progress in implementing the United Nations Convention Against Corruption. The report recommends action for the Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice.
