The United Nations General Assembly issued a resolution, 64/179, expressing its serious concerns regarding the negative effects resulting from transnational organized crime and corruption. Transnational organized crime includes smuggling and trafficking in humans, illegal narcotics, and small arms and weapons; and can seriously impact a nation's development, peace, and security. This report is divided into five sections: I) Introduction; II) Transnational organized crime - six sections that cover the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention against Transnational, possible mechanisms to review implementation of the Convention, implementation of the provisions on international cooperation of the Convention, technical assistance activities related to the Convention, and information on trafficking in human beings and smuggling of migrants and firearms; III) Corruption - includes two sections on the Conference of the States Parties to the United Nations Convention against Corruption, and Promoting ratification and implementation of the United Nations Convention against Corruption; IV) International cooperation against kidnapping; and V) Recommendations for continued support of the Conventions both from the Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice and from member states to ratify and implement the Conventions.
