The five articles of this edition of the ONDCP Update discuss the current efforts of the ONDCP. The first article discusses ONDCP's expansion of efforts to address substance abuse issues among women, children, and families. The second article discusses ONDCP's commitment to ensure the availability of substance abuse prevention, treatment and recovery services for military personnel and their families, including veterans. The third article discusses the work of volunteers from ONDCP to help the family of a deceased soldier. The fourth article presents information on the ONDCP Director's trip to Columbia and Peru in January 2011 to meet with government officials and discuss important issues dealing with those countries' ongoing counternarcotics cooperation and support for drug prevention, treatment, and alternative development programs in the region. The final article presents the President's fiscal year 2012 Drug Control Budget request of $26.2 billion for efforts to reduce drug use and its consequences.
