This video, which is intended to be viewed by crime victims whose cases have entered the criminal justice system, presents informative comments by criminal justice professionals and crime victims about each stage of case processing.
Abstract
Recognizing that crime victims may be unfamiliar with how their cases will be processed by the criminal justice system and how they will be involved in that processing, various criminal justice professionals explain each stage of case processing; and crime victims comment on their experiences with victim-witness advocates and their participation as victims-witnesses in case processing. The stages of criminal justice processing discussed in the video are pretrial proceedings; the period of investigation; preparing victims for court proceedings; the arraignment; setting bail; the pretrial hearing; the indictment; plea bargaining; trial features, including victim testimony; sentencing, including the victim impact statement and truth in sentencing; probation; and parole.
