Abstract
The workshop was convened to bring together interested participants to discuss Batterer Intervention Programs (BIPs) and the evaluation issues surrounding these programs. The first presentation at the workshop examined batterer intervention programs and the strategies available for responding to batterers. As noted in the presentation, research has identified the basic types of batterer interventions: the Duluth model, the cognitive-behavioral model, a combination of the Duluth and cognitive-behavioral programs, couples therapy, and individual therapy. Additional presentations at the workshop covered the following topics: Evaluation Outcomes, Evaluation of Recruitment and Retention, Evaluation Designs, Evaluation Implementation, and Recommendations from workshop participants on the direction the field of batterer intervention programs should be headed.
