Most of the data presented have been provided to the Division of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) through the monthly Crimestat process. Crimestat is the performance management system for New York State criminal justice agencies and initiatives. Crimestat brings together criminal justice system indicators and performance measures from numerous State agencies, as well as Federal and local criminal justice agencies. The 22 criminal justice topics addressed in this report include five strategy areas that cross agency lines; these five are Operation IMPACT, DNA Databank and collection, offender reentry, sex offender management, and criminal alien improvements. Historical criminal justice system indicator data, including reported crime and criminal justice populations, are presented in the report. For performance measures, 5 years of data are presented. The Sex Offender Management section also provides information required by Article 6-C of the Correction Law. In addition to data on crime in New York State, an overview of violent crime outside of New York City is presented. The section on "Enforcement" presents data on Operation IMPACT, specialized State police services, traffic safety, DNA databank and collections, eJusticeNY, and law enforcement support services. The section on "Managing Offenders" presents data on criminal justice population trends in local jails, on probation, in State prisons, and on parole. Other topics addressed in this section are the management of offenders through technology, arrest and fingerprint processing, jail management and oversight, prison management, offender reentry, sex offender management, and improvements in the management of criminal aliens. The section on "Public Safety and Services" presents data on child safety, victim's compensation and restitution, reducing domestic violence, and information for victims and the public.
