This guide from the National Sexual Violence Resource Center, presents information for victim service providers on developing sexual assault response teams for assisting sexual assault victims.
Abstract
This guide is intended for use by victim service providers who wish to develop a SART, a sexual assault response team that serves victims of sexual assault. SARTs usually include victim advocates, law enforcement officers, forensic medical examiners, forensic scientists, and prosecutors. This guide begins with a discussion of what a SART is and the jurisdiction that it covers, such as a State, a territory, a campus, a tribal land, or a multi-city/State region. The guide next provides information on how to assess a community's readiness for a SART and how to identify opportunities for collaboration. A link is provided to a list of online collaboration resources that include: Building Stronger Sexual Assault Survivor Services through Collaboration; Collaboration: A Training Curriculum to Enhance the Effectiveness of Criminal Justice Teams; Collaboration Primer; Community Tool-Box-Tools; and Looking Back Moving Forward-Workbook. The guide finishes with information on how to define SART protocols and guidelines and how to develop a strategy to keep the team momentum going. List of additional resources and references
