This national security strategy developed by the Obama administration focuses on "renewing American leadership so that we can more effectively advance our interests in the 21st century."
Abstract
This will be done by building upon the sources of the Nation's strength at home while shaping an international order that can meet the challenges of the threats that confront the Nation. This strategy involves sturdy international alliances, an unmatched military, advancing the world's largest economy, a strong and evolving democracy, and a dynamic citizenry. At the center of these strategic efforts is a commitment to renewing the Nation's economy, which is the core of American power. The broader effort based in a renewed economy includes investment in a quality education for children and youth, the enhancement of science and innovation, the transforming of an energy economy that will power new jobs and industries, lowering the cost of health care, and reducing the Federal deficit. This recovery includes rebuilding an infrastructure that will be more secure and reliable in the face of terrorist threats and natural disasters. Internationally, America must engage in strengthening international institutions and marshalling the collective actions that can serve common interests such as combating violent extremism; stopping the spread of nuclear weapons and securing nuclear materials; achieving balanced and sustainable economic growth; and developing cooperative solutions to the threat of climate change, armed conflict, and pandemic disease.
