In compliance with New York State's Executive Law Section 837-a, this report presents summary information on the processing of felony cases in New York State's superior courts.
Abstract
The data cover indictment through disposition for felony cases processed in superior court from January through December 2009. The current felony processing file contains information on superior court cases opened from 2006 to 2009 as well as cases closed from 2006 to the 2009 that were opened at any time. The felony processing file identifies the county in which the prosecution occurred and the prosecutor's office that prosecuted the cases. Some of the statistical tables contain information on indictment and superior court informations (SCIs) opened in superior courts in 2009. Other tables contain information on cases that reached final disposition in 2009; cases in these tables may be for indictments and SCIs from the same year or from previous years. The report contains 21 statistical tables. Tables 1 through 18 present felony case processing statistics for New York State. Tables 19 through 21 present summary statistics for prosecutors' offices. Convictions for non-criminal offenses, such as violations and infractions as well as youthful offender adjudications are included in convictions totals. Cases in which the defendant has been convicted, but not yet sentenced, are not included in the disposition tables.
