Highlights from this fact sheet regarding juvenile delinquency probation caseloads in 2008 include the following: courts with juvenile jurisdiction handled almost 1.7 million cases during the year, with probation supervision being the most severe disposition in 34 percent of the cases; in 58 percent of the cases, adjudicated delinquents were ordered to probation, while in the remaining cases, the youth agreed to voluntary or informal probation; 68 percent of adjudicated delinquents placed on probation were white, 29 percent were Black, and 3 percent were of other races, and 73 percent were male, and 37 percent of cases placed on formal probation were for property offenses, while person offenses and public order offenses each accounted for 25 percent of the cases, and drug offenses accounted for the remaining 13 percent of cases.
