This report from the South Carolina Department of Public Safety, Office of Justice Programs, presents 5-year trend data on reports of domestic violence in the State for the years 2005 through 2009.
Abstract
Highlights from this report for the period 2005 through 2009 include: 272,763 offenses were committed against 272,661 victims, with almost 67 percent of the offenses being for simple assault and 17 percent being for aggravated assault; 40.8 percent of all violent crime victims were victims of domestic violence; vandalism was the most common offense reported in cases were other offenses were reported along with the domestic violence offense; domestic violence offenses occurred most frequently between 9:00 p.m. and 9:59 p.m., and most frequently on Saturdays; 442 deaths resulting from domestic violence offenses were reported during the 5-year period; and the victimization rate among females was 168.8 percent higher than the rate for males. This report from the South Carolina Department of Public Safety, Office of Justice Programs, presents 5-year trend data on reports of domestic violence in the State for the years 2005 through 2009. Data for the report were obtained from the South Carolina Incident Based Reporting System on incidences of domestic violence reported to State and local law enforcement agencies.
