The designated responsibilities of the Working Group are to develop cumulative knowledge in the areas of asset recovery. Under the guidance of the Conference of the State Parties, the Working Group is to encourage cooperation among relevant bilateral and multilateral initiatives, as well as to contribute to the implementation of the related provisions of the Convention. In addition, the Working Group is responsible for facilitating the exchange of information among States by identifying and disseminating good practices that will strengthen mutual legal assistance in criminal matters, efforts to prevent and combat corruption, and facilitate the return of the proceeds of corruption. The latter focuses on locating, freezing, seizing, confiscating, and returning the instruments and proceeds of corruption. Previous discussions and recommendations of the Working Group and the States Parties are outlined, followed by an update on the status of implementation of the recommendations of the Conference of the States Parties and the Working Group regarding the implementation of asset recovery in the context of the disposition of public-corruption cases. The report addresses the actions taken by States Parties on 10 recommendations pertinent to the development of cumulative knowledge; 9 recommendations that address the building of confidence and trust between States requesting information on asset recovery and those providing information and assistance; and three recommendations relevant to technical assistance, training, and capacity-building.
