This fact book provides up-to-date data for population trends; economic security; family attachment; community support; homeless children and families; child health, safety, and personal security; education; selected indicators by ward; neighborhood cluster; region; race; and ethnicity. The Fact Book tracks 38 indicators of child wellbeing and provides a quick snapshot of the changes shown by several key indicators for the year, rather than a complete summary of the situation. Findings show an overall improvement in 15 indicators, no change in 5 indicators, and 18 indicators which appear to have worsened. The book and data indicators are organized according to the Administration's six citywide goals for children and youth: children are ready for school; children and youth succeed in school; children and youth are healthy and practice healthy behaviors; children and youth engage in meaningful activities; children and youth live in healthy, stable, and supportive families; and all youth make a successful transition onto adulthood. Recommendations and strategies based on a review of the 2008 recommendations and research completed by the D.C. KIDS COUNT Collaborative partner agencies are included. A user survey is included for further data collection for future fact books. Tables and graphs
