This January 2012 issue on "Ethnics and Recruitment Processes: Trends in the New Economy," contains six feature articles, four columns, and seven regular departments.
Abstract
The six feature articles include: 1) Policing in the New Economy: A New Report on the Emerging Trends from the Office of Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) analyzes surveys, data, and other sources of information compiled by various national organizations, as well as law enforcement agencies applying for COPS Hiring Program (CHP) grant funds to explain police staffing and funding in the current economic downturn; 2) Recruiting During the Economic Downturn which provides information on what recruiting approaches leaders should employ to prepare their organizations for future challenges; 3) Wrongful Convictions and Officer Safety: Shifting the Focus to the Process discusses how to ensure officer's situational awareness skills stay sharp and focused; 4) The New Cape Coral Public Safety Facility: Overcoming the Economic and Political Odds to Reality provides a case study on how one police facility was built during the toughest years of political and economic challenges; 5) Budget and Staffing Shortages: Consider the Benefits and Cost Savings of Part-Time, Paid, Reserve Police Officers describes how the Roswell, Georgia, Police Department developed a successful part-time, paid, reserve police officer program that enhances community safety; and 6) 2011 IACP Awards provides the 118th Annual IACP Conference winners.
