Abstract
BILL OF RIGHTS AS CIVIL RIGHTS, AND THEIR APPLICATION TO POLICE WORK ARE EXPLAINED. SPECIAL EMPHASIS IS PLACED ON THE FIRST SIX AMENDMENTS, CONTAINING BASIC PROTECTION AGAINST ARBITRARY POLICE ACTION, AND THE 14TH AMENDMENT. SECTIONS OF THE U.S. CODE PERTAINING TO CRIMINAL AND CIVIL LIABILITIES OF POLICE OFFICERS VIOLATING CIVIL RIGHTS ARE QUOTED AND EXPLAINED. CASE STUDIES TO CLARIFY THE STATUTES, AND A RECOMMENDED READING LIST ARE PRESENTED.
