Highlights from the 2011 Annual Report on North Carolina's Drug Treatment Courts include the following: during fiscal year (FY) 2009-2010, the State of North Carolina had 45 drug treatment courts (DTC) operating in 21 judicial districts; 1,881 people participated in DTCs during FY 2009-2010; and due to the courts' intensive supervision, frequent drug testing, and intensive outpatient treatment, court participants were drug tested over 48,000 times, attended over 12,000 court sessions, and participated in over 100,000 hours of treatment. Additional information in this report examined funding sources for DTCs and major initiatives undertaken by the State during FY 2009-2010 to implement best practices, policies, and procedures. The different divisions of the DTCs receive funding from several different sources, such as the Department of Health and Human Services, the Division of Community Corrections in the Department of Corrections, and the Department of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention. The major initiatives included risk and needs assessment and evidence-based practice training, revised minimum standards for DTCs, development of legal best practices for family DTCs, and a pilot adult DWI treatment court. Data for this report were obtained from DTC coordinators in local courts, and are presented in seven sections: 1) Drug and DWI Treatment Courts - summaries; 2) Sentenced Adult Drug Treatment Courts; 3) Sentenced Adult DWI Treatment Courts; 4) Deferred Prosecution Adult Treatment Courts; 5) Family Drug Treatment Courts; 6) Juvenile Drug Treatment Courts; and 7) Evaluation of Drug Treatment Courts.
