This statistical bulletin from the United Kingdom Statistics Authority presents data on seizures of drugs in England and Wales for the period 2011/12.
Abstract
Highlights of findings on the seizure of drugs in England and Wales during the period 2011/12 include the following: police in the United Kingdom and the UK Border Agency conducted 216,296 drug seizures during the period 2011/12, a 2-percent increase from 2010/11; cocaine was the most commonly seized class A drug, followed by heroin; the most common class B drug seized was cannabis, while the most common class C drug seized was benzodiazepine; over 3.5 tons of cocaine were seized in 2011/12, a 45-percent increase from 2010/11; and the amount of heroin seized in 2011/12 increased 153 percent, from 0.7 tons in 2010/11 to 1.8 tons in 2011/12. This report, produced by the United Kingdom Statistics Authority, presents data on the types and amounts of drugs seized in England and Wales during the period 2011/12. Data for the report were obtained from police departments in England and Wales and from the UK Border Agency. The data are broken out according to the different classes of drugs: Class A - cocaine, crack, LSD, heroin, Ecstasy, methadone, and morphine; Class B - amphetamines, barbiturates, and cannabis; and Class C - anabolic steroids, benzodiazepines, GHB, Ketamine, and temazepam. Data are presented on the number of seizures by class and type, the quantity of drugs seized by class and type, and seizures by authority by class and type. Figures, tables, and notes
