Abstract
The ultimate goal of the DUI Court is to help offenders achieve stability, self-sufficiency, and productivity as responsible citizens. Phase 1 of DUI Court processing involves random drug testing at least once per week, appearance before the judge twice monthly, verification of attendance at 30 self-help (AA/NA) meetings within the first 30 days of the program, and meetings with a probation officer at least 4 times a month. Phase 1 includes three group sessions per week and meeting with a primary counselor for individual sessions. Other requirements in phase 1 are employment, a job search, an educational program, or community service. Other activities in phase 1 may include installation of an ignition interlock immediately upon reinstatement of a driver's license, a mental health evaluation, attendance at a victims panel, and presentation of an orientation speech in court. Phase 2 of the DUI court continues many of the requirements of phase 1, but with a relaxation of the frequency of required activities. Phase 3 continues the drug testing, appearances before the judge, meeting with a probation officer, and attendance at group sessions and individual counseling. Phase 4 continues drug testing, appearances before the judge, attendance at self-help meetings, and at least 180 current, continuous, clean/sober days, not including inpatient time. Also included in phase 4 is an exit interview survey upon graduation and the presentation of a graduation speech before the court. Eligibility criteria for participation in DUI court are listed.
