The first of the handbook's 10 sections introduces the reader to the various professionals involved with the juvenile justice process. Included is a brief outline of the process, beginning once a juvenile has been cited for a delinquent act. Section 2 addresses adjudication/disposition, including descriptions of treatment/intervention services, followed by section 3, which features the regimen and procedures for secure detention centers. The philosophy and characteristics of juvenile diversion programs are explained in section 4; and section 5 reviews the rights of parents in the course of the case processing of one of their children. The rights of juveniles at various stages of case processing are outlined in section 6. Information is provided on adult court criminal cases in section 7, since some juveniles may be processed in this court. Section 8 discusses the role of the schools in preventing and intervening in delinquency cases, primarily through the School Resource Officer (SRO) Program, which places law enforcement officers in schools to create and maintain a safe learning environment. Remaining sections of the handbook address community service providers, the termination of a juvenile court case, and the implications of juvenile court cases.
