COMPREHENSIVE STUDY COMPARING THE EFFECT ON INMATES OF DIFFERENT TYPES OF CORRECTIONAL INSTITUTIONS IN SWEDEN USING STRUCTURED AND STANDARDIZED ADMINISTRATION OF QUESTIONNAIRES TO INMATES.
Abstract
THE STUDY WAS CARRIED OUT IN 13 INSTITUTIONS REPRESENTING EVERY TYPE IN OPERATION IN SWEDEN INCLUDING MALE, FEMALE, JUVENILE, TRAINING SCHOOL, AND PREVENTIVE DETENTION INSTITUTIONS. THE STUDY HYPOTHESIZED THAT INMATES ARE SOCIALIZED INTO THE CORRECTIONAL COMMUNITY, THAT THE EFFECTS ARE MORE OR LESS PERMANENT, THAT THE NEGATIVE INFLENCES OUTWEIGH THE POSITIVE, AND THAT THERE ARE NO GREATER SYSTEMMATIC DIFFERENCES BETWEEN THE TYPES OF INSTITUTIONS THAN BETWEEN THE INDIVIDUAL INSTITUTIONS OF THE SAME TYPE, DISCUSSED ARE IMPLICATIONS FOR SWEDISH CRIMINAL POLICY. --IN SWEDISH.
