This fact sheet updates features of the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG,), which is the leading source of Federal funding to State and local jurisdictions for support of a range of criminal justice programs.
In fiscal year (FY) 2014, there were 1,224 local and 58 State applications eligible for submission under JAG.. A total of $290 million was available to States and Territories, and $92.4 million was available to units of local government. Under Public Law 109-162, there was a merger of the Byrne Grant Program and the Local Law Enforcement Block Grant Program. Under the JAG formula, the Bureau of Justice Statistics calculates a minimum base allocation for each State and Territory. The allocation is based on the congressionally mandated JAG formula.
