Under the SafeFutures project, OJJDP provides approximately $1.4 million annually for 5 years to each of six communities (four urban, one rural, and one Tribal government). SafeFutures assists these communities with existing collaboration efforts to reduce youth violence and delinquency. SafeFutures also provides funding and technical assistance for improving the service delivery system by creating a continuum of care that is responsive to the needs of youth at risk for or involved in delinquency. The six SafeFutures programs summarized are in Boston, Massachusetts; Seattle, Washington; Contra Costa County, California; Fort Belkamp Indian Community in Harlem, Montana; Imperial County, California; and St. Louis, Missouri. All of these sites have focused on the development of coordinated services and networks of government and private agencies involved in services to youth at risk for and involved in delinquency/gangs. These sites were competitively selected on the basis of substantial progress toward community assessment and strategic planning in addressing delinquency through a continuum of care for children and families. These sites also demonstrated their commitment to the development of a continuum of care through evidence of efforts to forge collaborative partnerships and leveraged local resources. A list is provided of SafeFutures Partner Organizations that represent an array of training and technical-assistance resources and programmatic strategies for addressing youth problems.
