A FRENCH PSYCHIATRIST ANALYZES EMOTIONAL FORCES IN DISTURBED PERSONALITIES AND URGES THAT THEY BE TAKEN MORE INTO ACCOUNT IN THE PROSECUTION OF CRIMES OF ALL KINDS.
Abstract
CASE HISTORIES OF A VARIETY OF CRIMES ARE CITED INCLUDING MURDER, THEFT, MORALS OFFENSES AND JUVENILE DELINQUENCY. STATEMENTS BY OFFENDERS ARE ANALYZED TO SHOW HOW THEIR PERSONALITY CONTAINED EMOTIONAL FORCES WHICH COMPELLED THE OFFENDER TO COMMIT THE CRIME. THE ANALYSIS OF THESE CASES USES THE METHOD OF PHENOMENOLOGY IN WHICH THE ANALYST SEEKS INTERPRETIVE PATTERNS IN TERMS OF THE OFFENDER'S OWN EXPERIENCE AND IN TERMS OF AN OBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION OF THE CASE THAT MAKES NO THEORETICAL ASSUMPTIONS. --IN FRENCH
