The intention of this report is that the project summaries will inform readers about ways that other States and communities have addressed the problem of underage youths access to alcoholic beverages. Such informal technical assistance can later be supplemented by more formal technical assistance by the U.S. Justice Department's Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP), which administers the Federal Enforcing the Underage Drinking Laws (EUDL) program. Much of the formal technical assistance under this program is provided through the Police Executive Research Forum and other organizations. Project directors who receive funds through the EUDL program should review this report, identify projects that conduct activities similar to their own, and solicit further information from peers whose contact information is provided at the end of each project summary. Included in each project summary are the type of program offered, period of program operation, source of program funding, and the impact of the program in reducing underage drinking. Based on their experience in administering the project, police executives offer recommendations to those interested in starting a similar initiative. Exemplary reference materials are listed.
