The report first discusses the work of Federal law enforcement agencies and prosecutors since 2010 in countering child exploitation. The work of other Federal agencies in this effort is also reviewed, as they have supported child victims of exploitation and have provided grants to State, local, and tribal government and nonprofit partners in the effort to protect children from exploitation. Efforts have also included educating the public about the dangers of child exploitation. In addition, the report presents a threat assessment that addresses the nature and scope of child exploitation and updates the assessment in the 2010 National Strategy. This is followed by the presentation of plans for continuing efforts against child exploitation. The plans focus on four key areas: investigations and prosecutions; outreach and education; victim services; and policy initiatives. The National Strategy contains a section that addresses efforts to counter child exploitation in Indian Country, since issues there are often distinctive. A series of appendices contain statistics on Federal prosecutions, tables with information on the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force Program, federally funded research on child exploitation, a summary of the survey on which the threat assessment is based, and the rest of Department of Justice legislative proposals. Case studies are included as examples of child exploitation prosecutions brought by the Justice Department.
