The International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) presents its model policy (effective November 2007) for law enforcement agencies in registering and tracking sex offenders.
Abstract
The policy provides guidance for the registration, public notification, and residence address verification of sex offenders, as well as conducting community education efforts on these issues. A model policy statement about an agency's activities in registering and tracking sex offenders is provided. Definitions of terms used in the model policy address "registered sex offender (Federal definition)," "registered sex offender (State definition)," "noncompliance," and "grooming behavior." A statement of procedures covers sex offender registration, notification, community education, verification and investigation, officer education and training, and multi-agency partnerships and information-sharing. National and Federal resources are listed.
