This report describes the features and functions of the Dru Sjodin National Sex Offender Public Website (NSOPW), which is a tool for parents, schools, caretakers, and employers to use in educating themselves, their families, and communities about sex offenders, sexual abuse, and its prevention.

Abstract

The NSOPW provides free access to registration information on sex offenders living, working, and attending school within a particular community and identifies registered sex offenders in nearby States and communities. One search provides comprehensive sex offender data from all 50 States, the District of Columbia, select U.S. Territories, and certain federally recognized Indian tribes. NSOPW enables customized search options by name, address, city, county, State, or Zip code. It also contains sexual abuse education and prevention information and resources. NSOPW is made possible by the efforts of communities across the Nation that are cooperating to keep communities safe. It has become an unprecedented public safety resource for sharing information about sex offenders nationwide. Its web site address is www.NSOPW.gov.
