Since its inception, the Bureau of Justice Statistics' (BJS) Census of Law Enforcement Training Academies (CLETA) has provided national data on law enforcement training in the United States for use by the profession, researchers, policymakers, and the public. Law enforcement training academies face unique challenges as they prepare recruits for a complex profession that exists at the intersection of law, technology, community relations, and the use of force. The CLETA surveys show how these academies continue to evolve to train officers to perform effectively in the changing environment in which they work.
