This article presents a Bureau of Justice Statistics study that analyzed how much and what type of training law enforcement recruits in the United States receive.
Abstract
Since its inception, the Bureau of Justice Statistics' (BJS) Census of Law Enforcement Training Academies (CLETA) has provided national data on law enforcement training in the United States for use by the profession, researchers, policymakers, and the public. Law enforcement training academies face unique challenges as they prepare recruits for a complex profession that exists at the intersection of law, technology, community relations, and the use of force. The CLETA surveys show how these academies continue to evolve to train officers to perform effectively in the changing environment in which they work. The BJS report, "State and Local Law Enforcement Training Academies, 2013," (NCJ 249784) with data based on the CLETA, can be viewed at link provided.
