This Technical Assistance Guide (TAG) was developed by the Prescription Drug Monitoring Program Training and Technical Assistance Center (TTAC) to assist PDMP administrators in promoting their programs.
Abstract
A successful promotional campaign will increase use of the PDMP, making it a more visible and effective public health tool. When more stakeholders use the PDMP, patient care and safety are improved; prevention and treatment of the misuse and abuse of prescription drugs are identified and treated earlier; and the diversion of these drugs to the streets is curtailed. The major sections of this TAG are captioned as follows: 1) know your stakeholders; 2) develop an action plan; 3) allocating funds or budgeting; 4) design a logo or create an acronym; 5) describe the services and benefits of the PDMP; and 6) examples of PDMP promotion methods. The latter examples are divided into common outreach methods and innovative approaches to promoting PDMPs.
