Abstract
OJJDP awarded almost $254 million in grants in fiscal year 2017. At the Police Chiefs Conference, OJJDP representatives participated in sessions on child sex trafficking indicators and law enforcement responses, as well as issues in police and youth engagement. In Colorado and Iowa, the OJJDP Acting Administrator touted the work of the State Advisory Groups on behalf of youth in those states. At the American Society of Criminology's 73rd Annual Meeting, OJJDP representatives focused on current progress and future plans for various OJJDP research projects. At the Gang Prevention Summit, OJJDP's Acting Administrator shared best practices for combating gang activity. The article on implementation science discusses the methods and benefits of the systematic study of how programs and practices are started and sustained. Another article describes what Virginia has done under the Juvenile Detention Alternatives Initiative (JDAI), using support from OJJDP and the Annie E. Casey Foundation. "Upcoming Events" and "News in Brief" compose other sections of this issue.
