Abstract: |
NIJ’s Law Enforcement Advancing Data and Science (LEADS) Scholars program supports the professional development and research capacity of mid-career, sworn law enforcement officers who are dedicated to advancing the police profession through scientific research. In this video, Sergeant Williams notes that in his role as a sergeant, he was responsible for developing solutions to some of the traffic-crash problems in his jurisdiction. In his research as a LEADS Scholar, he tested various hypotheses on reducing traffic fatalities, so as to determine what strategies have been effective in practice. The LEADS Program facilitated this research with guidance from professionals in research methods, literature reviews of relevant research, and connections with other professionals searching for research-based strategies for preventing traffic fatalities.
