Abstract

This National Institute of Justice (NIJ) Web page outlines the new Needs Assessment of Forensic Laboratories and Medical Examiner/Coroner Offices (Needs Assessment) produced by NIJ - a rigorous and comprehensive review that fulfills the mandate of the Justice for All Reauthorization Act of 2016. The Needs Assessment Report to Congress (NCJ 253626) identifies the tools, resources, and data needed to keep forensic laboratories, as well as medical examiner and coroner offices, on the path to progress. The National Institute of Justice, on behalf of the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) and in collaboration with other DOJ agencies, directed development of the assessment.
