INMATE FURLOUGHS ARE A PART OF THE REHABILITATION PROCESS AT THE LENZBURG PRISON IN SWITZERLAND. THE VIEW TAKEN THERE IS THAT ADULTS CANNOT BE EDUCATED BUT, THROUGH SKILLFUL EFFORTS, THEY CAN BE TAUGHT NEW ATTITUDES.
Abstract
THE INSTITUTIONAL AUTHORITIES MUST KNOW WHERE THE INMATE IS GOING, WHY HE ASKS FOR A FURLOUGH, WHO HE WILL BE ASSOCIATING WITH AND WHERE HE WILL BE STAYING. STATISTICS ARE PRESENTED ON FURLOUGHS FROM LENZBURG PRISON FROM 1968 THROUGH 1973. IN THE SIX YEARS IN QUESTION, ONLY 39 INMATES OUT OF 2691 WHO WENT ON FURLOUGH DID NOT RETURN. --IN GERMAN
