A DESCRIPTION OF THE AGENCIES AND PROCEDURES WHICH COMPRISE THE MONTGOMERY COUNTY JUVENILE JUSTICE SYSTEM LAW ENFORCEMENT, THE COURT, DETENTION, PROBATION SERVICES, AND RELATED SERVICES.
Abstract
IN 1959 THE NATIONAL PROBATION AND PAROLE ASSOCIATION CONDUCTED A STUDY OF THE MONTGOMERY COUNTY SERVICES FOR CHILDREN IN TROUBLE AND PRESENTED SEVERAL RECOMMENDATIONS FOR IMPROVEMENT OF THESE SERVICES. IN 1974, THE COORDINATING COMMITTEE ON CRIMINAL JUSTICE DETERMINED THAT A REVIEW OF THE 1959 RECOMMENDATIONS AND AN ANALYSIS OF THEIR IMPLEMENTATION WAS NECESSARY. COMPOSED OF FIVE CHAPTERS, EACH OF WHICH PERTAINS TO MAJOR ELEMENTS OF THE JUVENILE JUSTICE SYSTEM IN MONTGOMERY, THIS REPORT IS ORGANIZED BY STATING EACH 1959 RECOMMENDATION AND BY ANALYZING ITS IMPLEMENTATION. EVOLVING FROM THIS ANALYSIS ARE DESCRIPTIONS OF 1975 CONDITIONS AND 1975 RECOMMENDATIONS TO ENHANCE ASSISTANCE TO CHILDREN IN TROUBLE. IN EACH CHAPTER TREATMENT OF NEW ISSUES FOLLOWS THE ANALYSIS OF 1959 RECOMMENDATIONS AND STATEMENTS OF 1975 RECOMMENDATIONS. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT MODIFIED)
