THEORETICAL MODEL FOR UNDERSTANDING INTERPERSONAL CONFLICT AND IN HELPING TOWARD ITS RESOLUTION WHICH CAN BE APPLIED TO CONFLICTS IN FAMILIES AND OTHER INSTITUTIONS LIKE MENTAL HOSPITALS AND PRISONS.
Abstract
THE MODEL UTILIZES CONCEPTS DERIVED FROM BEHAVIOR MODIFICATION AND COMMUNICATIONS APPROACHES FOR THE RESOLUTION OF CONFLICT BETWEEN PARTIES, ONE OF WHOM HAS SOCIALLY SANCTIONED POWER TO MAKE DECISIONS FOR, OR CONTROL THE BEHAVIOR, IF NOT THE THOUGHTS AND FEELINGS, OF THE OTHER. THE THERAPIST, OR SYSTEM INTERVENTIONIST, MANAGES ENCOUNTERS BETWEEN THE TWO PARTIES WHO ARE IN CONFLICT TO HELP THEM UNDERSTAND THE THOUGHTS AND FEELINGS OF EACH OTHER IN SUCH A WAY THAT WILL PREVENT THE SAME CONFLICT FROM OCCURING IN THE FUTURE.
