A PAPER THE MAJOR THESIS OF WHICH IS THAT CRIME CAN BE BETTER PREVENTED BY ATTEMPTS TO CONTROL PEOPLE'S ENVIRONMENT INSTEAD OF USING THE MORE TRADITIONAL CONCEPTS OF PUNISHMENT AND DETERRENCE.
Abstract
THE AUTHOR SPEAKS OF TWO TYPES OF ENVIRONMENTAL CONTROL: 'INTERNAL', THROUGH THE USE OF GENETICS, BIOCHEMISTRY, AND PSYCHOBIOLOGY, AND 'EXTERNAL', WHICH INCLUDES URBAN PLANNING AND BUILDING DESIGN. HE DISCUSSES BOTH IN DETAIL, AND INCLUDES A HISTORICAL BACKGROUND OF CRIME PREVENTION, WHICH HE SAYS PROVES THE NEED FOR THE USE OF THE TWO TYPES OF ENVIRONMENTAL CONTROL HE DISCUSSES.
